King's Park Primary School

Opportunities available with your School PTA

Would you like to get more involved with the School Community? Meet other parents and
carers? Organise fun events to raise money for the School?

Yes?! Then, we have just the role for you.

The PTA needs a Coordinator, Secretary and Treasurer for 2018/19.

The Coordinator oversees the running of the PTA, the Secretary makes sure everyone
knows what’s happening at the meetings and the Treasurer manages the
finances.

Deadline to apply: Sunday 10 June. New Committee members will be elected at the PTA AGM on Wednesday 13 June.

Mary McLeod, outgoing Coordinator says: “I’ve really enjoyed getting to know other
parents and meeting people who I probably wouldn’t have spoken to otherwise
because our children are in different years. I’ve made a lot of friends in our
community.”

Roles can be shared between couples or friends. Roles are held for between 1 and 3
years.

Jillian McClure, outgoing Treasurer says: “I’m really proud of all the money we’ve
raised for King’s Park. In 2016-2017, we donated £5216 to the School. This
funded buses for the nursery trip, reading books and subscriptions to Language
Nut, Sumdog, First News and Education City.”

Sounds good but you’d like to know a bit more first?

What is the PTA?

The PTA brings together parents, carers and teachers to raise money for the School
through fun events.

The money raised is used to purchase things that otherwise wouldn’t be covered by
the School’s budget, which improve the learning environment for the pupils.
Recently these have been things like: games boards for the playground, homework
bags for P1s and educational software.

What’s involved if I take a role on the Committee?

Together the members of the Committee set the direction for the year, deciding which
events to run and working with a wider group of parents, carers and teachers to
make these happen.

When are the meetings?

We meet once a month to develop ideas and organise events – meetings are held
alternately in the afternoons and in the evenings, so that more parents can
attend.

Is it fun?

We think so.

Helen Beasley, outgoing Secretary says: “I have loved meeting new people and helping
organise fun things for the school community to enjoy.”

It’s always great to have new faces so that we can have new ideas – we have had
summer fairs, quiz nights and Ladies’ Nights but we’re always looking for new
ways to combine having a good time with raising money for the school!
