Children’s Learning

We have welcomed more new children this week in the nursery and look forward to working with them and their families.

This week our focus has been using Emotion Works techniques to encourage use of literacy and vocabulary in the children. We have had some really engaging conversations with the children about feeling, about kindness and supporting one an other. The children have enjoyed once again the story of Jack and the Beanstalk but this time we have focused on the use of language in describing how the giant felt, how Jack felt and how his mother felt. The children have given us words such as Exhausted and frustrated and angry and disappointed. All wonderful words extending their understanding and in turn enabling their early literacy skills. Mrs Paterson told the story of Jack without using a book and had one of the children acting out the story and using lots of drama, and facial expressions matching the words the children used to describe the story.

The children have also been practicing their skills at being responsible for the environment and being very helpful at tidy times. Sorting, and putting things back where they belong. We hope this continues! The children take pride in their environment something that is really important and gives them a great feeling of belonging and ownership.
