Children’s Learning

This week we have welcomed new children into the nursery. The existing children have welcomed them and already there are some lovely friendships developing.

There has been a great deal of outdoor play this week and the children have been helping to develop our compost bin by pulling up the dead flowers and weeds . We hope that this time next year we will have our own compost (fingers crossed).

We continue to monitor the “Bean on the window” as yet there has been no growth but again this is all about learning and experimentation.

The children have enjoyed making carrot soup for snack with the carrots we grew in the garden , one little girl telling me how “delicious” it was! They have washed and chopped all the carrots and helped prepare everything, chatting about the funny shapes of the carrots and how dirty they were. The children also made biscuits this week which were equally delicious!

There has been a lot of numeracy work in nursery this week. The children are not only using numbers and measurement with practitioners, they are using a great deal in their own child led learning .

The children have enjoyed quiet times alone in the many small areas we have created  and this is enabling them time to look at books, using numbers and talking ( sometime just alone) about the pictures they observe, counting to themselves and retelling stories they have heard.

Our learning wall continues to progress and at the end of last week we had a letter from the giant to say that he had decided to take a little holiday and he would see us again soon. The story of Jack and the Beanstalk has really captured the children’s imagination and it has been lovely to see them introducing it into their play. There has been lots of talk about emotions this week and how we should take care of each other and be mindful of others feelings.

Our full time children have really enjoyed their first week of hot school meals and it is a lovely time to spend with the children chatting about their learning and what they have done during the day and their plans for the rest of the day.

Next week we will welcome some more new faces to the nursery and look forward to meeting the new families.

Forest School

I hope to have forest schools started by October this year . The PTA will be organising a Forest Clean up as we did last year and it would be great if you have an hour or two to help on the day. Date TBC
