Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back from your Easter holidays! We hope you had a great time and are recharged and ready for the term ahead!
On Tuesday we received a letter saying that Primary 5 had been chosen to design and build two small neighbouring villages in the Scottish Borders! Miss Griffith and Mr Cross have decided to make this our project for the term so this week we have been planning our village and considering all the different things we need to make a successful community. We decided on a top ten list of buildings that our village requires. Some of these include a bank, a shop and a homeless shelter.
We split into our trios and each trio was given a building they were responsible for. To do this successfully we first had to learn about nets of shape. We spent Thursday morning creating some 3D shapes. These include a cuboid, a cube and an octahedron! After we mastered this we got into our trios and began to design our proper building for the village out of card.
When we were designing our buildings we had to decide on what shape would suit our building type. For example our church required two cuboids of different sizes and one triangular prism to act as the roof and the spire. We also found it challenging to create the net of the shape by tracing it onto card at the window! We also learned how important it is to design our buildings while the card was still in net form rather than fully constructed!
We hope you have a lovely weekend and the sun stays shining for as long as possible!
