Forest School Learning.
Since commencing Forest visits with the children our main focus with them has been learning the rules around keeping our self safe. The children have been amazing and are using such encouraging words with each other and evaluation their own risk and that of their friends on a daily basis.
This week we introduced a whole new set of rule for them as we were able to have a fire pit in the woods. This of course meant all new rules for the children to cope with and again they have amazed us at how they are listening, contributing and taking things forward.
They have thoroughly enjoyed being able to roast their own marshmallow at the fire pit and chatting around the fire.
We have enjoyed literacy in the wood with the children making up stories and taking a book with us,mark making in the woods using the charcoal left from the days before fire and numeracy finding and measuring sticks for the fire. Sorting them into three piles tiny, medium and larger. Using maths language in the woods is becoming a daily natural occurrence with the children with very little prompting from the adults.
Learning in Nursery.
The children in Nursery have been enjoying making bread, we have baked this week for snack. Using knives to butter our own bread and having choices of what we would like on it.
We have been looking a lot at learning letters of our names and enjoyed some very physical play in the garden. Lots of hide and seek and using comparisons of what they can do in the nursery garden and what they can do in the forest so again keeping safe within our limits.
The children have enjoyed the lego a great deal this week, particularly the boys who have made some great models and been sharing and helping each other really well. Small world has been a very popular area to since introducing the natural wooden tree house and parts of natural trees. The dinosaurs have loved romping around their new environment!.
