What a wonderful week in P5A. We designed characters to live in our village, which we have named ‘Queensville’. Our partner village is called ‘Kingsville’, and we chose these names because both classes liked having a link to Kings park and came up with those pairings. For our characters we thought about the kinds of people we needed in our village, and then created character profiles for them. We then drew pictoral representations of what our characters would look like. P5B joined with us and formed a colossal class of 60 children on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. We used this time to ‘network’ and meet characters from both villages. We then wrote an autobiography in the role of our characters, and included information on their past life such as terrible accidents, hobbies and job history.
Also, we learnt about using apostrophes in grammar to show ownership, for example ‘Zak’s water bottle’ or ‘Gregor’s pencil case’.
This week in numeracy we have been learning about converting fractions, decimals and percentages. The Newton group worked on recognising decimals and fractions, the Pythagoras group solved decimal word problems linked to our Village topic, and the Pascal group learned about percentages of amounts, interest and saving to buy a house.
Some of our class are away at a drama workshop with ‘Macastory’ and we look forward to seeing what they have produced.
Next week we are looking forward to skiing, watching P6 and 7’s performance of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, and working more on our topic.
