P5A Have Another Busy Week

In numeracy this week we have been learning about money and budgeting. First we planned a family holiday using a worksheet. We then used the Ipads to browse the Ikea website to start looking for new furniture to brighten our school entrance hall, as we know that this is something Mrs Renton would like to do next year. We had to think about our overall budget, the things she had requested, as well as ensuring that everything was bright and welcoming. Some of the class then met with Mrs Renton to discuss this. She suggested we consider health and safety, meet up with Mr Burt, and measure the area to ensure everything would fit before making a class order form.

During reading we watched a short film called ‘The Blue Umbrella’ and discussed the film maker’s craft with our talk partners. This made us really think about their choices, decisions and film making techniques.

In writing, as we have finished reading and watching Anne of Green Gables, we had a choice of writing about the novel. Some of us rewrote one of the main events from the novel from another character’s perspective. For example when Anne nearly drowned from Gilbert’s point of view or when Minnie May had croup from Diana’s. Others chose to write what we imagined the first chapter of book two would be like.

We have spent a lot of time this week watching auditions for KP’s Got Talent, and are waiting for Orlyn, Sadie, Jessica, Hope, Dylan M, Eden, Ellie and Emil to attend the semi-final with Mrs Findlay and the Pupil Council.

Another big part of our week has been taken up by planning for our Queensville and Kingsville fair which will be happening next Tuesday for Primary 1. We spent time in groups choosing and planning our activities such as Soak the P5, Nerf Gun target and a Treasure Hunt. We also made posters to advertise our activities.

Next week is a very busy one!  We will be running our fair, attending P6 and P4’s enterprises, meeting our new teacher and taking part in health and wellbeing week.
