The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar P5b

Primary 5b review of the week

This week’s review was written by: Beth, Christopher, Hannah, Cole, Euan, Amelie, Liam H, Rhona, Calum, Xanthe

This week in p5b we are all really excited because we have started a new class novel which is a collection of short stories called “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” by Roald Dahl. Our task this week was to predict what we think will happen in the story. We looked at the front cover, the blurb and read the opening few pages to help us with our prediction. Hopefully some of us are correct!

We watched a BBC interview with Tim Peake, the famous British astronaut. Mr Cross asked us to summarise the key points of the video, just like in our summary sorcerer homework task! We learned about Tim Peake’s space walk, some information about his experiments such as trying to find a cure for asthma and we also found out more about Tim’s life as a fighter pilot in the RAF.

As part of our chess mini project we were learning about how to protect our king. One of the strategies we learned is a special move called castling. This is where we move our king two spaces and the rook jumps over the king to protect him. This puts your king behind a wall of pieces which is a helpful defensive move! There are lots of situations where castling is not allowed. Ask your child for more details!

Good luck bargain hunting in the Black Friday sales and have a lovely weekend!
