The Victorians and P5b

This week’s review was written by Jack, Beth, Hannah, Euan, Sophie, Max, Zayaan, Christopher, Liam B, Liam H, Rosie, Amelie and Lila.

This week in P5b we have been travelling back in time and began our learning about Queen Victoria and the Victorian era. We learned that Queen Victoria reigned from 1837 to 1901 which was the longest serving monarch until Queen Elizabeth II our current queen took the record. During that time the Houses of Parliament were built, the first public library opened and the first picture was taken. One of our favourite facts about Queen Victoria was that she was very short, only 4ft 11!

On Tuesday in STEAM with Miss Gallacher, we were learning about Victorian inventions. Some of these include ice cream, postboxes and soap. We all disagree about what the most important Victorian invention was but some of us really appreciate the public toilet, the telephone and the railway.

This week we have finished our series of short stories starting with Henry Sugar. We have really enjoyed a slightly different style of class novel and we all have different favourites. Henry Sugar was our class favourite with 14 votes, followed by The Hitch-hiker with 8 votes, with The Swan and The Boy Who talked With Animals having 4 votes each.

Look out for our seasons calendars that are coming home today. We have worked really hard on them and hope you like them!
