Literacy and Languages week in P5b

This weeks update was constructed by Hannah, Cole, Christopher, Ellis, Zayaan, Euan, Amelie, Liam H, Beth, Scott, Hope and Keziah J

Hi everyone! This week at Kings Park has been Literacy and Languages week. We have had all sorts of celebrations such as a visit from the theatre group called Macastory. They asked some senior pupils to help them act out a story about a warrior called Finn McCool and his crew who set out to rescue some babies from some terrifying giants. They also told us how golf was invented with a story about St Andrew.

As part of our celebrations we have been learning this week about how St Andrew became the patron saint of Scotland. As part of this event we dressed up in tartan to celebrate Scottish culture.

Finally as part of our Literacy and Languages week we have been visiting the book fair and listening out for the DEAR bell. For those of you who don’t know what the DEAR bell is, it stands for Drop Everything And Read and when it rings we immediately stop what we are doing and read!

Moving away from literacy we developed our chess skills this week by learning about pawn promotion. Pawn promotion is where your pawn reaches the enemy side of the board and changes into a more powerful piece such as a knight, a bishop, a rook or more commonly a queen! You can’t turn into a king or that would make it impossible to win!

We all hope you have a great time at the Christmas Fair this afternoon and enjoy your Christmas decorating and Advent calendars!
