Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

We had a lovely holiday but are glad to be back with everyone in Primary 5A.  We started off the week with a New Year campfire where we shared our stories about the Christmas holidays and our New Year’s Resolutions. We then put these into our ‘phone’ display booklets.

In literacy we worked on our predicting skills by watching the start of a film clip and making a ‘good guess’ about what would happen next. We made our estimations based on the title, the main character and the main events. We then watched the ending to check the accuracy of our predictions.

In writing, we were focusing on a fairy tale called ‘The Little Red Hen’. We first learnt to tell the story with actions and a story map, and then changed the characters and setting to make a modern retelling. Some examples included: A Cockerel trying to make a pizza, a girl searching for monsters, Yoda making a lightsaber and Spongebob frying burgers. This morning we paid a visit to P1A who had also been learning the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ where they told us the story with actions and we read our alternative version to our P1 buddies.

In art, we painted trees using watercolour paint to make the background for our calendar. We learnt the ‘smoosching’ technique to paint leaves and practised painting trees the way that they grow.

Next week we are looking forward to starting rugby lessons and getting back into our regular routine.
