Fire Strikes Queensville! – P5a

Fire Strikes Queensville!

In a traumatic turn of events this week, we arrived back to class on Tuesday afternoon to discover that Dreams restaurant in Queensville had been burnt down. We looked at lots of different statements about the incident and sorted them into facts, opinions and ambiguous statements. On Wednesday, we worked in pairs to solve the crime using a mystery maths problem sheet that tested our fractions, multiplication and missing number problem skills. There were lots of suspects (including Mr Cross, Miss Griffith, Mr Dougal, Mrs Orr, Miss McCloskey and characters from both villages), but at the end of our investigation we uncovered Miss McCloskey as the culprit! As a result, we wrote newspaper articles covering the mysterious fire and Miss McCloskey’s guilt. Next week we hope to hold a trial similar to Scottish court.

Monday was a sports filled day as in the morning we competed in 9 house groups around different activities. Each group had a teacher as the team leader and at the end the fastest runners from each year group competed in the sprint and relay finals. Lothian was the overall winner, followed by Buccleuch and Dalhousie. In the afternoon we saw interesting pictures, objects and videos from Miss Griffith’s time in Argentina, in order to prepare for designing our poster about our World Cup countries. We are going to complete this, together with our one about Australia next week.

Other events during the week included skiing where the beginners had the opportunity to ski from the green line (Miss Griffith forgot and got off the tow too early!), and the advanced group went to the top of the slope and worked on poles. In reading, we had another shot at our new rotation, and shared our homework with our group and Miss Griffith. So far, we are happy with this new approach.

Today is Ms Limerick’s last day and although we are sorry she is leaving, we are looking forward to meeting our new Head teacher Mrs Renton next week. Next week also sees the arrival of a new pupil in our class, so it will a busy week once again!
