P3b Term Overview

Hello and welcome to Primary 3B’s Summer Term Overview.

We have already made a great start to our learning on Seesaw and I have had many great posts showing fantastic learning in all areas of the curriculum. This is what we are planning to cover over the course of this term through a variety of creative, fun and exploratory approaches. I look forward to seeing all of your wonderful learning posts and to interacting with you all through the virtual world.

Numeracy & Maths

This term we will be focusing on number word sequences within 1000, we will practise a range of strategies for adding and subtracting (such as partitioning and empty number line), work on grouping and sharing, explore doubles and halves and we will revise and practising our basic facts. In maths we will explore time, measure, and data handling. In addition, we will use digital technology to further practise our maths and numeracy skills through apps such as Sumdog, Education City and Topmarks.

Literacy

This term in Reading we will be focusing on Finding and Using Information, as well as Enjoyment and Choice. We will continue to work on the ‘word watcher’ skill through reading and will look at using a dictionary/thesaurus to up-level our word choice. We will create different types of text; both imaginative and non-fiction (for example, we will be using our notetaking/report writing skills when researching our IDL topics). We will continue to work in our Literacy Rich groups, focusing on a different spelling pattern and certain common words each week. We will practice our spelling words each week using a variety of fun and creative activities. Listening and Talking activities will focus on sharing information, experiences and opinions. We will look to use the voice recorder or video camera to explain and present our thinking on Seesaw.

IDL

Our first IDL topic this term will be ‘The Circle of Life’ (the investigation of plants, animals, and food chains). Through research we will learn to distinguish, sort and explain the difference between living and non-living things, explore examples of food chains, and show an appreciation of how animals and plants depend upon each other for food.

Our second IDL topic will be Weather, where we will observe and record the sun and moon at various times of the day, use a range of instruments to measure and record the weather, discuss how the weather impacts my life and the life of other living things, and explore different climate zones around the world.

We will use a variety of different approaches to investigate these topics, such as, mini research projects, report writing and practical experiments. We will also use expressive arts to explore these topics.

HWB

In Health and Wellbeing we will be exploring ways in which we can look after our emotional health and the health of others. We are going to continue to work on our acts of kindness and investigate how we can bring joy to ourselves and others. We will also explore and research the world of work and how these jobs impact our day to day lives. We will be keeping fit as Mrs Campbell will be sharing PE activities each week, we will also utilise online resources (such as Joe Wicks and the Active School’s Challenge), and aim to make the most of the time that we are able to spend outdoors.

Keep safe and well,

Miss Lockhart
