This week we have used our maths and numeracy skills to help us in our Dinosaur topic.
We measured the area of dinosaur footprints. First we estimated the area then we counted the number of squares in the large and baby footprint. We designed creative dinosaur shape pictures using the different shapes we have been learning about. We used metre sticks to measure the length of an adult brachiosaurus 22m and we learned that its weight was heavier than 5 elephants! We tried to imagine how such a large dinosaur would look like next to our school.
We did fun games in teams using the smart board: sequencing numbers, counting in 2s, 5s, 10s and quick addition and subtraction, learning the time on digital and analogue clocks and designing our own fraction flags using 2 colours. We have been singing numbers in French using the interactive smart board. We have been practising counting coins and finding change. We enjoyed counting forwards and backwards with our colourful snakes and ladders game and hoped we did not land on the snakes head!
We made a colourful window with different shapes and used 3d shapes to build models and learned about bar charts. We voted 2c’s favourite dinosaur and made a bar chart to show this. T Rex, Velociraptor and Triceratops are very popular. We have learned about estimating and different types of measure: length, height, weight, volume, area and time. We read that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago during the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. We have learned how we can use maths in our topic, technology and art and design. We have had great fun and enjoyed sharing our maths and numeracy activities with our families.
