Sounds

We were introduced to Fred who only talks in sounds. We count the sounds in words with Fred to see what sounds come at the beginning, middle and end of a word e.g. in the word map, m is at the beginning, a is in the middle and p is at the end.

Practising Pete 

We looked at the pictures in the story “Everyone Can Learn How to Ride a Bicycle.” From reading the pictures we saw that the story was about a girl who got upset because she kept falling off her bike. We gave her this advice:

• “You should try and try until you can do it” – Freya
•  “Keep on trying to ride your bike and you’ll be able to do it without stabilisers!” – Cathan
• “Keep practising” – Blake
• “Never give up!” – Emily

 

Writing

Our context for writing this week was “Practising Pete”. Some of things we had to practise before we could do it included:

• Swimming
• Riding our bikes/scooters
• Writing our names

(Miss Hoffman was very impressed with how we were able to reflect on our learning!)

 

Numeracy

We have been continuing to learn our numbers to 20:

• Forwards and Backwards
• (What comes before/after)
• Forming numbers to 20
• Recognising numbers to 20 – e.g. “point to 12”

 

This week we have also been looking at 5 and 10 frames (To help us with adding)

“3 red counters and 2 green counters. Altogether that makes 5”

 

 

We are continuing to look at domino patterns and random domino patterns, identifying any patterns we recognise

 

Maths

We enjoyed going outside to make patterns with autumn leaves.

 

“My pattern is yellow, red, yellow, red, yellow, red. . .”

P.E

In P.E we have been learning how to run properly –

• “You run faster when you use your arms because you can pull yourself forward”
• “When one arm is forward your opposite foot should be forward too.”

 

Topic

At the beginning of our Harvest topic we asked:

“How do combine harvesters work?” Here is what we have learned about them so far…

• “Combine harvesters cut the crops”
• “If it wasn’t for the combine harvester cutting the crops we wouldn’t have corn flakes or other cereals for breakfast”
• “The combine harvester sucks up all the wheat and cuts the heads off to leave the grain”
