Literacy
P1C have been continuing to learn special friend sounds. This week we learned: ‘ch’, ‘sh’ and ‘th’. We counted sounds, built words and wrote sentences. For example, we were able to tell Miss Hoffman that the word ‘shop’ has 3 sounds but 4 letters: sh – o – p.
Numeracy
This week we wanted to share our knowledge of finger patters. We use finger patterns to help us add. E.g. “Show me 8” – “Can you tell me 2 numbers that make 8?” – We could see that from having 5 on one hand and 3 on the other that 5 + 3 made 8.
From out knowledge of ‘doubles’ we could also show 8 as being 4 and 4. We challenged ourselves even further by using our doubles to answer 5 + 4! “4 + 4 = 8 and if you add 1 more that makes 9!”
“Can you tell me 2 numbers that make 8?”

Lastly, many thanks for your kind donations for Children In Need. We had lots of fun dressing ‘oddly’ for the day!
