Maths/Numeracy
Using different coins, we worked with our learning partners to make amounts up to the value of 10p.
Following on from ‘grouping’ last week, this week we focused on sharing…
We’ve also been learning about ‘halves.’ We realised that this was similar to ‘sharing’ as both amounts have to be the same/equal.
We enjoyed this game: http://www.snappymaths.com/counting/fractions/interactive/halfornotimm/halfornotimm.htm
Learning about halves also links in with our knowledge of doubles! “5 + 5 = 10 so half of 10 is 5” We could practise halving at home using pizza, toys, liquids, sweeties, dry pasta etc…
Using this knowledge in a real life context is great. E.g. “I had 10 sweeties. I gave half of them to my sister. How many sweeties did I give to my sister?”
Literacy
We found reading the ‘alien words’ very funny. E.g. “chir” “moub” “baiz” We dotted the single sound letters and dashed the special friend sounds to help us read these words. Special friend sounds we have covered so far include:
Beauty and The Beast
Our favourite thing from the week was watching the Primary 6s and 7s perform Beauty and the Beast! This prompted lots of discussion: “I’d like to be Belle because…”
Art
As promised from last week… have a look at some of our beautiful Spring art work. We used both oil pastels and water colour paints to create these.
