Nursery News

Another wonderfully busy week for the children There has been a great deal of creative learning taking place in the nursery this week. We have been donated a huge amount of paper dishes and plates and this has led to some wonderful creative ideas from the children. We have had flying saucers, unicorns, dinosaurs to name but a few models that the children have enjoyed making. Kite making is still very popular with the children and it has promoted lots of discussions about shapes to cut for a kite. Some have experimented with squares and circles and others traditional diamond shapes. Lots of creative thinking and problem solving  and a great deal of co operation between children without the need for adult intervention. Adults have been observing the children in their thinking and learning and recording this in learning profiles. We have of course also had some wonderfully windy days this week just perfect to fly their creations. Providing provocations and seeing where the children take this is fascinating for staff and enables us to make sure we are facilitating the correct level of learning and progression for each child individually.

There has been cooking and baking taking place in the setting. Some children went on a shopping trip to the green grocers to buy vegetables to make soup then enjoyed this during snack. Some children helped to make a birthday cake and all enjoyed eating that! Lots of maths in weighing and measuring, sharing and turn taking and super conversations. We also had a pizza making session with a group who took their pizza home to enjoy for lunch. So some delicious smells this week!

The children have also enjoyed a gym session in the hall on Friday afternoon, lots of movements and feeling great!

We have been enjoying watching the new display for Setting the Table develop within the snack area. Please take a look when you are next in nursery, there is a lot of useful information for parents regarding encouraging your child to make healthy choices. We will also be reviewing our snack and how we can make this even healthier for the children when in nursery and perhaps introduce some new tastes and concepts at the same time. Involving the children in this and encouraging them to help by making choices, buying and prepare their daily snack.

Mothers Of Pre-Schoolers

After the holidays we are very happy to say we will have MOPs sessions starting at King’s Park Early Years Setting. This will start the second week back and will be Tuesday morning 9am – 10:30 am changing to afternoon after Christmas. There is a poster on the information board and a signing up sheet for you to put your name down.

A little about MOPs

“MOPS stand for “Mothers of Pre-schoolers” – but don’t let that confuse you.  MOPS is about meeting the needs of every mum of a child from conception through to older children.  Whether you’re urban, suburban, rural, stay-at-home, working, teen, adoptive, special-needs, single or married, MOPS is for you.

Being mums is what brings us together and allows us to build a community.  The early years of being a mum are just as foundational to you as they are to your baby, and those years are filled with unique needs that other mums instinctively understand.

When mums arrive at MOPS, they sign their children into the creche that is provided.

Once the children are settled mums join a program tailor-made to meet their own needs. They can grab a cuppa and something to eat and not have to share it!

The session includes delving into fantastic topics and chatting them over together where there are no “wrong answers” and each mum is free to share her joys and struggles with others who understand. In these moments long-lasting friendships are often made on the common ground of finally being understood.

There is also the opportunity to have a go at some great crafts. For mums who are often frustrated by the impossibility of completing anything in their unpredictable days, this can be deeply satisfying!

MOPS enable mums to feel refreshed and encouraged in their mothering, knowing that they are not alone. MOPS help mums to acknowledge that they have needs too, and when they take the time to meet those needs, they are happier in their mothering.” (http://mops-uk.org/what-happens-in-a-mops-group/)
