End Of The Week News

Cohort 1 – Red group, Yellow group and Purple group Acorns

The Acorns had a fantastic time this week exploring the local park. They collected different types and colours of leaves, pine cones and a few crab apples. The children brought them back to the setting where they investigated them further. They were able to identify the tree’s the leaves fell from and spoke about why the leaves are different colours.  The children used their maths skills to match and sort their findings and made a lovely display. They also added some of the leaves to our floor book.

Cohort 1 – Red group, Yellow group and Purple group Seedlings

Some of the seedlings have taken a great interest in magnets this week. They have been exploring the indoors and outdoors with the big magnets, they were learning to sort materials in magnetic and non magnetic.

The children still have a great interest in how things move/flow. We have had lots of malleable materials out this week indoors and outdoors and watching how they move and flow by using guttering and placing them at different heights.

Cohort 2 – Blue group, Orange group and Green group Acorns

The children have been having lots of discussions about feelings through stories this week. They  have been talking about how the characters are feeling by looking at their facial expressions. The children are beginning to expand on their emotional literacy by using words such as worried, afraid, excited etc.

Cohort 2 – Blue group, Orange group and Green group Seedlings

The children have been really engaged in maths and numeracy this week throughout the setting. We have had lots of children using our number table where they have had the opportunity to count the coloured counters, sort the counters in to colours and identify numbers, even some of the children were able to count out the amount of counters to match the numbers. They have also been exploring measurement, height and size.

A big warm welcome to all our new starts and their families this week.
