The children at King’s Park Early Years have had a super week. Learning all about Chinese New Year and that 2020 is the year of the Rat. We have looked at Chinese traditions of giving each other red envelopes with money in for luck and the children have also discovered that the colour red brings good luck to the Chinese families at this time of year. We have made a super display and a group of children had fun creating this area and placing their Chinese dragon on the wall. We also enjoyed some traditional Chinese oriental music, though not everyone enjoyed this! Some of the boys told us they didn’t like it and wanted to hear some other kind of music! In Literacy we have enjoyed hearing the Mr Men Chinese New Year story and shared our thoughts and ideas after this. Making loud noises to chase away the bad luck was not everyone’s cup of tea.
During snack the children have been able to experience some Chinese food with noodles, rice and sauce but the favourite was definitely the prawn crackers!
The children have also enjoyed making their own dragon masks. The art area has been alive with them this week and this extended on to making them with art sticks too so they have been very busy in making these some of which are on the walls but the children really wanted to take these away with them this week.
Lots of really good fine motor skills being used and colour recognition from the children.
Forest schools this week was the turn of the afternoon children and they have enjoyed experiencing lots of gross motor skills . Climbing, sliding, investigation what they are able to do and challenging themselves to go that bit further building up their resilience. So lovely to see some of the more timid children making so much noise and having so much fun. Collecting sticks to “make a fire” has been very popular with all the groups this week and we have quite a collection now.
Next week will be the morning children’s tun to go to the woods. Please see the register that will be up in nursery. After the holiday I hope to have given each child a set day so you will know when they are going.
