Children’s Learning

This week we held the last of the transitions for the new children leaving to go to school. Having the three areas for the children to make their transitions  been a huge success and the children have been really excited to have the opportunity to go to the forest ,discovery room or sharing the nursery environment with their P1 buddies. We would like to say a huge thank you to the P1 children who have been fantastic , very responsible, reassuring and helpful to the nursery children.

The nursery children have been so excited to have buddies and there has been lots of chatter about who is with who. The children have also been really keen to extend a warm welcome to the new children going into P1 who dont attend the nursery here. There is already the start of some lovely friendships taking place.

We had a lovely trip to the woods this week and the P1 boys got everyone organised and built an amazing den with logs and tarps. There was some amazing chat about the length and sizes of sticks and logs they would need and they involved everyone in the task.

Learning in nursery has been very loose parts orientated this week. There has been some really interesting creations , from houses to shops that sell Ice-cream and parties set up by the children. Using maths, measurement, weight and counting.

A super example of schematic play when children repeatedly practice different ideas or concepts. … When children are exploring their schema they are usually absorbed, with a high level of involvement. This can be used to introduce new ideas, consolidate learning and encourage critical thinking.

There has been a great deal of interest in writing skills this week  and some children were very keen to explore numeracy in their play. Working together  to problem solve and helping each other find answers and solutions. The children have also been exploring using IT and printing letters they have created with the computer.
