Children’s Learning

Nursery Learning

This week has been an amazing week in nursery. The children have enjoyed the lovely weather and made the most of it! There has been a great deal of outdoor learning taking place with the children spending time in the new pebble pit, the literacy tents and helping in the nature garden. Some of the children have been busy helping to create a bug house and there has been great discussion as to what bugs may take up residence , strong thoughts are spiders and woodlice so far. The children researched how to create the house and sourced the materials they need.

The children have been busy planting more seeds this week , taking turns, discussing in groups what they would like to plant and where. This week we have planted Sunflowers and are excited to see how they grow and flower when we return to nursery in August. Many of the children are really taking a very keen interest in the areas of the garden now and are engaging in many different learning experiences. They are working together in groups and negotiating problems really well. All are showing an interest in nurturing the garden and taking care of their environment.

Learning Tree Stories.

The children may have mentioned to you that Mrs Tierney has been doing Learning Tree stories with them. This is a great learning opportunity for the children to develop their confidence, imagination and help them develop their expressive nature. The children are given the opportunity to have their stories recorded, then  act out their stories in groups. This gives the experience of drama, group work and imagination. The children’s stories are written down once a week in order to build an amazing story collection. These will be displayed in nursery.

The children begin these sessions by introducing a story to the children who then act out that story. This is then followed by  creating their own stories. The adult scribes exactly what the children say using their own words. The story is then read by the teacher and the children act out the story for each other. Children can change their story as they go so sometimes you may see words crossed out and new words added.

Peep

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for our PEEP sessions this term. Its so lovely and very encouraging for staff that so many parents are taking part. Since beginning the sessions the learning has been based on Looking after ourselves. The children and parents had fun painting their hands and doing hand prints and enjoyed the “wash our hands ” song afterwards, The children have enjoyed making hand puppets and using their imagination. The group spent a lovely afternoon in the sunshine and parents discussed schematic learning. The children had lots of fun listening to the story “Again” and then enjoyed parachute games.

Forest Schools Learning

This week we have enjoyed forest schools and the experience of freedom this gives the children.  We have welcomed new children to the group this week and many those who have been going for some time were able to talk to the new children about risk and safety which was fantastic to hear. Many of them leading the discussion without adult intervention. There has been a lot of interest in exploring this week and unfortunately this meant that there were a few nettle stings! However it didn’t take the children long to warn each other to stay away from “Those stingers!”
